Built to Thrive Initiative
Driven by community and built with purpose, this is where compassion and intentionality meet. Let’s build together.
This initiative was created to remove barriers for growth—both literal and personal—for individuals and families who lack access to safe storage and functional outdoor space. For many people, the cost of materials, tools, and skilled labor makes structures like sheds and productive spaces completely out of reach.
The BTI is designed to donate sheds, outdoor structures, and garden beds to individuals who cannot afford to purchase the materials or pay for professional installation. These donations are not one-time handoffs; they are built through a collaborative process that centers learning, empowerment, and long-term sustainability.
We recognized that a simple structure could change how people live. A shed can provide organization, security, and a place to create. Outdoor structures and garden beds offer space and opportunities to connect, with ourselves, our earth, and each other. Together, they create space—space to grow food, learn new skills, and regain a sense of ownership over one’s environment.
Education is woven into every stage of the project. Recipients participate in consultations and planning tailored to their specific needs, gaining practical knowledge about design, materials. Each recipient receives full build plans for their structure or garden beds, ensuring they understand what was created and how to care for it, expand it, or replicate it in the future.
The BTI is cyclical, not transactional. Recipients are always welcome to return for guidance, advice, or adjustments to their existing build. They may also choose to give back by volunteering on future projects, sharing their experience with others, or assisting with similar builds in their community.
At the same time, volunteers gain hands-on learning through on-site instruction during builds. Whether assisting with construction or garden installation, volunteers develop practical skills while contributing directly to their community. This shared learning environment fosters connection, mentorship, and confidence for everyone involved.
At its core, this project exists to create access—to functional space, practical skills, and community connection. By combining donation with education, the project transforms sheds and garden beds into tools for self-sufficiency, dignity, and long-term growth.
This program is primarily funded by donations and grants. We do have services available as well to aid in funding.
